Janikowski's record-tying kick leads Raiders past Broncos (Reuters)

DENVER (Reuters) ? Sebastian Janikowski drilled an NFL record-tying 63-yard field goal to help lead the Oakland Raiders to a season-opening 23-20 victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday night.

The powerful Polish kicker booted the long field goal just before halftime as he gave the Raiders a 16-3 lead and was greeted by excited team mates.

His kick sailed just beyond the crossbar to tie the record originally set by Tom Dempsey in 1970 before it was matched by Jason Elam also in Denver in 1998.

"I had a dream I broke the record and it was here in Denver," Janikowski told reporters. "The ball really carries here."

An 11-year veteran who has played his entire career in Oakland, Janikowski is the all-time leading scorer in Raiders franchise history.

He finished with three field goals on Monday, while Raiders running back Darren McFadden dashed for 150 yards to make a winner out of their first-year head coach Hue Jackson.
