More Than Working Capital Series: Wellness | Texas Entrepreneur ...

15th June 2011 ????? 0 Comments

This post is a part of our blog series called ?More Than Working Capital.? We know it takes ?more than working capital? for a business to be successful, and we will occasionally post about what we think is important for successful leadership, a successful career and/or a successful business.

Orison Swett Marden, an American writer, once said ?When we are best to ourselves, we radiate a healthy mental attitude of optimism, joy, gladness, and hope.? Are you the best to yourself when it comes to your health?

Worksite wellness programs are becoming popular as employers see the benefits of promoting health and wellness. Some of these benefits include:

  • Improved morale
  • Improved communication among work groups
  • Decreased absenteeism
  • Increased employee loyalty to your organization
  • Significant impact on a company?s bottom line
  • Reduced alcohol and drug use risk factors

In addition to the above benefits, wellness programs can make a positive impact on your company?s bottom line. Research suggests that for every $1 invested in health promotion, your company can save between $3 to $5 in health and safety costs, such as medical, absenteeism and workplace accidents.

Promoting wellness in the workplace can be as serious as hiring a trainer for weekly in-office workout sessions or as low-key as giving employees free fitness classes or creating a team for a local race or event.

You may have seen us talking on our social media sites about the Fittest Entrepreneurs competition in Austin. From their website: ?The mission of the Fittest Entrepreneurs competition is to identify, reward, and promote those entrepreneurs that prioritize health and fitness in their lives and at their organizations. These entrepreneurs are leading the workforce health movement and are creating a better work environment, healthier employees, and reducing healthcare costs for the future by creating a culture of preventative care in the present.? We have two employees in the competition, and we?ll keep you updated on the latest news.

How does your organization promote wellness?
