?Wisconsin Truth Tour? Green Bay Kick Off! - Wisconsin State AFL ...

DSC03874
This morning local Green Bay residents gathered to learn how their fellow community members have been impacted by recent changes in Wisconsin policy.? Rally participants took the time to introduce themselves to three strangers in the crowd and learn why they took the time to come to the Wisconsin Truth Tour.? After hearing the stories of how their neighbors have been negatively affected by Scott Walker and GOP Legislator?s extreme agenda, community members took to the doors in support of Sen. Dave Hansen, who faces a Tuesday, July 19, general election.?

DSC03920 ?It is clear that Scott Walker and GOP Legislators are putting big corporations and wealthy campaign donors above what is best for me, my family and the people of Wisconsin,? said Jason Albertz,? a paraprofessional educator from Green Bay who works with special education children at Webster Elementary School.?? ?We have been taken by surprise.? I would never have imagined such extreme changes in such a short period of time.? I am here to learn how others have been affected by Scott Walker?s reign before I head out into the neighborhood in support of Sen. Dave Hansen.? Sen. Hansen stood up and fought for workers last February and will continue to advocate for the middle class instead of catering to corporate CEOs.??

Despite slashing education, health care and public services for local communities, Scott Walker, often met by protesting citizens, has been spewing talking points and spin at events around the state.? Now, the people of Wisconsin will have a chance to speak out on how they have been impacted by his policy changes, including budget and collective bargaining measures.

DSC03855"We are here today as a community of concerned citizens who are troubled by the direction Scott Walker has taken our state," said Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO.? "The Wisconsin Truth Tour will serve as a forum for the people of Wisconsin to speak out and share their stories about the negative impact recent policy changes have had on their life."

Over the next two and a half weeks The Wisconsin Truth Tour, which kicked off this morning in Green Bay, will stop in Baraboo, Hudson, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and Rhinelander.

?We began this journey 156 days ago,? explained Michael Bolton, United Steelworkers District Director District 2.?? ?We have rallied in Madison and we have rallied in cities across the state.? Sen. Dave Hansen stood up and left the state for us, for the rights of workers and on Tuesday we will re-elect Sen. Hansen who is one of us.? He is a union man and a middle class man who will fight for jobs.??

The budget, passed in June, calls for the deepest cuts to Wisconsin schools, healthcare and communities in the history of Wisconsin.? At the same time it raises taxes on seniors and working families by $70 million and gives an estimated $300 million in corporate giveaways.?

DSC03864 ?What we have seen in Madison is disastrous,? said Mahlon Mitchell, President of the Wisconsin State Professional Fire Fighters.? ?We have seen child labor laws weakened, voter suppression bills enacted, earned income tax credit increased on the poor, cuts to BadgerCare and Medicare ? this is no longer Wisconsin, this is the United Corporations of America.??

These choices impact Wisconsin and The Wisconsin Truth Tour will be a vehicle for citizens to tell how they have personally been impacted to their friends, family, neighbors and the media.?
